
The Royal Family
Royal families are the families that head monarchies.
In these states, supreme power belongs to one person, the monarch (king, emperor), and is inherited. However, there are absolute and limited monarchies. In the latter, parliament or the constitution plays the key role.
There are 12 monarchies in Europe, of which 7 are kingdoms and 3 are principalities, and approximately 40 monarchies in the world.
The best-known monarchies are:
- the United Kingdom, headed by King Charles III;
- Denmark – King Frederik X;
- Spain – King Felipe VI;
- Sweden – King Carl XVI Gustaf;
- Liechtenstein – Prince Hans-Adam II;
- Luxembourg – Grand Duke William V (Guillaume Jean Joseph Marie);
- the Netherlands – King of the Netherlands Willem-Alexander;
- Norway – King Harald V.
